Big Breakfast Could Blow Your Diet (via WebMD)

This comes from the “No S%!% Sherlock” department, but nevertheless it is crucial information as you develop your eating plan for your new lifestyle. Notice I didn’t use the the word “diet” there; diet has such a negative connotation and needs to be part of an entire lifestyle plan. But I digress – this article was featured on WebMD today and has some very relevant information regarding how you look at breakfast. Breakfast is a very important meal, and for me it was one of my “set it and forget it” meals. Pick 2 things you like, under 300 calories with a good balance of fiber and protein, and have it every single day. Takes the guesswork out of one meal, and gives you the nutrition you need to get to lunch.
Here are the highlights:
- Eating a big breakfast leads to more calories consumed in a day – 400 more to be exact
- People tend to eat the same thing for lunch and dinner, regardless of what they eat (or don’t eat) for breakfast
- The fight to lose weight should involve balancing your eating throughout the day
Embedded in the article is a slideshow of the best and worst fast-food breakfasts. My opinion is that there is no comparison to healthy options at home, but sometimes you don’t have that choice. Make smart decisions, and know what you are eating before you eat it. That way you avoid those surprises on the scale!
